Getting Yourself Started With Acupuncture
What are the Benefits of Acupuncture?
Acupuncture points are believed to be connected to the central nervous system. Imbalances and blockages of the Qi (energy) are thought to take the form of physical ailments. The needles are methodically inserted into the patient’s skin to help with qi blockages and help the energy balance and flow. These are just a few examples of what acupuncture can do for you:
Types of Acupuncture
Chinese Acupuncture –The needles for this practice are usually large and thick. These needles are placed deeper into the patient’s pressure point to cause a deliberate sensation when inserted. Heat is usually paired with the treatment to maximize the flow of energy through the body. Through a technique called Moxibustion, herbs such as wormwood and mugwort are used to burn at the tips of the needles to promote healing and improve qi stimulation.
Korean Acupuncture – Similar to Chinese acupuncture, the focus is on the manipulation and activation of the qi through the body. The most common technique used in Korean acupuncture is called the ‘four-needle technique’ due to the number of needles placed for treatment throughout the body. Even when using only four needles, the effectiveness of the technique provides various benefits for the treatment of all kinds of different ailments.
How is Korean Acupuncture Different?
The focus of Korean acupuncture is to locate the disruption of qi in the body’s meridian pathways and provide the necessary treatment for the specific illness or disease. In using the ‘four needle technique’, the needles are methodically rotated to increase and decrease qi in the body. This brings about balance and restoration.
